Ok, well I linked to this blog from my home page (which runs on our little linux server sitting in our house, administered by my partner, the best sys admin in the world!) ;-), so now I guess I’m obliged to write a little more often.
For those of you not aware of it, I’ve been working out at American Airlines for some time now on their website AA.com. Hmm, well, yeah, there’s that. It’s a job!
I’ve been rock climbing a good bit lately, and doing lots of gardening around the house. Exciting life, eh?
Well the other story/novel idea I’m working on is a fantasy one, possibly more than one book. It’s a somewhat typical fantasy/magical world, but a slight twist: two societies inhabit it, one is feudal, has mages, all the norm. The other is a nomadic, tribal group of psychics that are shunned by the rest of society. The novel centers on a magical item that has long been protected out of everyday hands. A central theme in the novel will be trust and stereotypes. Both societies are vying for the item, but for different reasons. The main characters think they are on the right side, but they’ll learn that what they’ve grown up thinking about people isn’t always true. Hopefully I’ll post some of the story once I’ve written a chapter or two.
In other news, I’ve been volunteering with Outtakes film festival and the Walt Whitman Community School. I was beginning to feel a bit ‘over-volunteered’ and wondering if what I’m doing is even worth while. I don’t get a lot of postive feedback from friends and family (i.e. few of them go to see the movies put on by Outtakes) other than “good job!”. Well, I am now a member of the Board of Directors at the school and I feel that I can possibly make a bigger difference there and directly impact some gay & lesbian youth’s lives for the better. As for the film festival, it is a great, well run organization and hopefully I’ll continue to pop in and see a good GLBT film from time to time, but I think that this year will be my last to volunteer there.
