Yep, that’s right, I’ve moved over to MovableType in case you haven’t guessed. Please excuse the mess while I get my cyber-nest straightened out and bring some of my old blog over. Here’s some entries I made earlier today:
Saw the Cat in the Hat today. What a bomb! They did such a great job with The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. And I love Mike Meyers, he’s a great character actor like Jim Carrey. Shrek was incredible (Shrek 2 coming soon!). But this one felt so disjointed. Neat special effects, costumes, sets, etc. It had funny moments, but all in all it stank like a rotten egg. I couldn’t help but sit there in the theater munching on my Sour Patch Kids thinking that if another director and screenwriter had just overhauled the lines, the general story, and the overall flow, I would have ended up caring more about the kids and what happened to them, as well as laughed more along the way. In the end at the warm fuzzy moment when the “lesson learned” occurs, I was just thinking “Yeah, the movie’s almost over!”. I had no investment in the kids.
The whole time Meyers just seemed awkward, like for once in his life he was embarassed to be doing a zany character. And, I never really felt like the Cat was one type of character. Is he mean? Just free spirited? Odd? Zany? He kept bouncing back and forth between them all I could never tell. Finally, there were too many non-Seussian anachronisms. In Grinch you were transported completely into a weird little world. Even phones and cars were curved and colorful. It would feel that way in “Cat” for a while, then suddenly there was a dirty old man watching scantily clad women on TV, an eighteen wheeler, very mundane things cropping up.
