Of the Third Reich marching through the U.S. Ok, no, nowhere near that bad. Not yet at least. Still, when I read this article on the NY Times (registration required), a chill ran down my spine on this line:
In Kentucky, for instance, the Legislature is considering a measure that would prohibit same-sex couples from adopting children. In Virginia, conservatives proposed a measure to prevent gay couples from receiving subsidized home mortgages. (The measure failed last week.)
The 2nd sentence creeped me out. No, nothing like this will ever pass in the U.S., but the fact that it was proposed scares me. That it potentially could have. That an intelligent, educated, elected representative considered this a good thing. Things like this are the first sign posts on a slippery slope to wearing arm bands marked with an insignia (we could be original, or just re-use from the 40’s: pink triangles), and much worse. Blatant, encoded in law discrimination that creates a second lower class.
