Listen to this song.
No human ever sang that song! A person sang a bunch of sounds and phonemes into a computer. Then, someone used a program to tell it what words to sing, and how to sing them. The computer retrieved the recorded sounds and built the vocal track.
Here’s the article
So, now we have virtual […]

Talk about a poor choice in appointments. Bush put together a council on bioethics to advise him in making policy on cutting edge biotechnology that could go into morally questionable areas. One specific area is the use of stem cells as research.
So, hmm, I’m going to pick a council to advise the leader of one […]

Not a big revelation, you might think. But I’m not wearing contacts or glasses! I had Lasik done Friday and I am already seeing nearly 20/20!! I hope I hope I hope that it ends up being 20/20. Although I’m already jealous, Ian has 20/15 vision accoring to his post-op exam.
Having Lasik done is SO […]

This is just awful! This poor girl, who may one day grow up to be a lesbian, read a children’s book where she learned it is ok to be gay. I’m glad the parents are considering transferring her to another school, because, you know, this is just SUCH an important issue!

Parents angered by book about […]

A company titled Vocera has created a very Star Trek:TNG-like com badge for use in hospitals etc. From the article, this is how it works:
With the Vocera badge, a nurse needs only to hit a button and say the name of a doctor. The request goes over the hospital’s wireless network to the […]

Saw the new Stephen King movie “Secret Window” yesterday on ‘date night’ with Ian I have to say, I was a little disappointed (about the movie, not the date!). Fairly predictable. Johnny Depp put in a good performance as usual (and was hot as ever!), but it wasn’t a good King thriller. Nothing […]

of working on “App Support” at American! (Application Support…cleaning up somebody else’s code). It’s nothing but working tickets and building code out to test environments, then troubleshooting production problems. I’ve been on it for almost exactly two years now (March 23rd 2002 I believe is when I started), and not one day on another […]

Ian had his Lasik surgery done today. It’s surprisingly anti-climatic. All this build up (and cost!) and you expect someone to be out of it for days, or disabled at least. He slept for about 5 hours, and has to put drops in his eyes and wear shades for about a day (god, they’re finally […]

I sometimes ponder possible changes in career. I’m always an aspiring sci-fi/fantasy writer (sometimes I wonder who ISN’T an aspiring writer!), and I’ve also had an ongoing strong interest in CHI (Computer Human Interaction) which studies how people use and interact with technology.
Something I’ve been thinking about in the last few days after a gaming […]

I’m getting Lasik in a few weeks. I went in for the initial exam and I apparently have enough tissue they can dig a little off the top! (Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it?)
Very excited. You’re not supposed to expect 20/20, but I’m hoping. More to come….
