A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

This is just awful! This poor girl, who may one day grow up to be a lesbian, read a children’s book where she learned it is ok to be gay. I’m glad the parents are considering transferring her to another school, because, you know, this is just SUCH an important issue!

Parents angered by book about gay princes

Isn’t it funny that most kids don’t even realize same-sex relationships are different or should be considered strange until someone tells them? Everyone I’ve spoken to who has told their young child, when asked about a same sex couple, that “it’s just the way some people are”, says their child then says “ok” and goes on with life.

Seems like we should all take a few life lessons from kids now and then.

I know! These people need to understand they are hindering their children by preventing them from seeing a part of the world. They need to expose their children to most aspects of life and this is one of them.

At least books like this are out there and making it into the libraries. For every parent that freaks out, there’s a kid that’s read this book and their parents didn’t know or didn’t care. Hopefully that kid read it, shrugged, and said, “oh, ok, there’s guys out there who like guys instead of girls”.

I have to keep telling myself social change happens one small step at a time!
