A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

A good friend recently reminded me that not all Republicans are right wing conservatives. I’m thankful for that reminder. I get carried away with getting upset with things and can blame an entire group, very quickly stereotyping, just as we all can. What we have to remember is there is a variety of perspectives and thoughts in any group.

I hear time and again that a majority of Americans are actually moderate and have similar views. It is time we stop letting the two ends of the conservative/liberal spectrum push the country back and forth and approach things from the middle. Moreover, fresh viewpoints from other groups need to be heard and acknowledged (there are more camps of thought out there than the simple conservative/liberal). If both parties would come to the table and say “here’s what I want but I’m willing to listen to you and compromise”, who knows what we could accomplish.

Anyway, the comment started this whole chain of thought and renewed my belief in our country. Things will never be perfect, and change is always happening, but social change never happens very quickly. I’m just thankful for the many benefits I do have of living in this country, and I look forward to the future with an eager eye for what is in store next.
