A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

I managed to upgrade my MovableType installation to v.3.121 and install MT-Blacklist. I so did not think it’d work, I figured I’d screw up along the way somewhere. Ian is our sys admin and understands UNIX, Perl, and all that stuff to keep everything up and running.

I had become SO sick of comment spam and was annoyed with the registration required bug (MovableType support helped me though, our server’s time was off due to Daylight Savings Time…I’ll leave that change to Ian as I have no idea how to do it, nor do I think I have the permissions). I read up on MT-Blacklist and realized I needed to upgrade MT to use it.

It’s all in place now. MT-Blacklist is a little buggy, but it’s just some guy who wrote it for free in his spare time, so I’m thankful and willing to cut some slack! If you post a comment, you may see an error at the bottom of the page, but not to worry. It looks like real comments are coming through and spam is getting blocked. Just during the ten minutes I spent setting it up and testing it, I got an actual spam comment and it was blocked. Yeah!
