Every now and then I do something good at work and get recognized for it, and the praise feels good ![]()
They handed me a change request estimated to take 10 days Tuesday morning. Since it was that large (as opposed to a quick one day fix), they assigned a project manager and dedicated tester. Oh, and it has to be done by Monday afternoon if possible, even though that’s only 4-5 days to do 10 days work.
Well, my group manager and the PM get around to calling me this afternoon (Thursday) to discuss the changes and see how I’m going on them. What’s my reply?
Oh, I’ve already coded it, tested it, and checked in the code. I’m having someone peer review it now.
So, at the moment my architect, PM, co-worker who impacted it and my group manager are all in awe. I don’t usually boast, but every now and then it’s nice to impress people. I’m not always the best at software design/architecture, patterns, etc. But I’ve always been an incredibly fast coder, especially if I have an existing framework I’m duplicating/tying into.
Damn, it feels good to be a gangsta….
You always were the smart one in our group.
Praise at work feels good (not that I would know, but I have a feeling it would).
November 16, 2004 @ 8:59 amThanks *blushes*
Not getting much praise yourself lately at work?
That’s too bad, I’m sure you deserve it! Have you worked on any interesting projects lately?
November 16, 2004 @ 9:57 amWell, I’ve been getting “pseudo-praise” like “We really need you”, but nothing like “nice work” or “good job”. At least they’re dependent, if not totally appreciative…:) I’ve been dabbling in Rite Aid development and redesign of a roadway in Arlington (VA), right near the Pentagon. Pretty cool stuff, but I’m pretty burnt out right now!
November 16, 2004 @ 12:49 pmWho knows what will happen–I’m considering quitting this engineering thing entirely to take a pay cut and be a G-woman (if the FBI will have me).
Anyway, I’m very proud of you!
Thanks again.
I get burned out here from time to time. I generally do application support, which is critical and high-profile, but thankless. We’re so focused on saving money here, there are few parties, and no awards, AA.com shirts or other paraphenelia, or raises (and only the measliest of bonuses…I’m up to about $60 for bonuses this year! woooooo)
A G-woman huh? I can see it. That would be so cool! You’d be like Agent Scully, only with much better hair.
November 16, 2004 @ 1:02 pmWhen I saw the title of this post, I immediately thought, hmmm. When did Bobby and beau get into BDSM?
My bad
