A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

I had a flat tire yesterday. Doh! Luckily, changing it went smoothly and I still joined Brian S., Brian M. (whose b-day it was), Chris and Ian for an evening of food, a movie (Finding Neverland!!! such a great film), and then wine at Cru, a fun wine bar conveniently in the same shopping center. I even had sympathy for my flat until they learned I’d got it in the garage at work so I was protected from the elements. I had twenty co-workers stop and ask if I needed help. Always nice to see other people being helpful.

This morning I had a pleasant discovery (when you live in the traffic-filled burbs of DFW or somewhere similar you’ll understand) that new East-West road had opened in The Colony. Memorial now goes almost all the way to the east, then west into Lewisville. Basically, my city is a small burb hanging off a freeway with little interconnecting roads with neighbor cities. It makes the city quieter and more neighborhood-feeling, but at the same time makes it harder to get to nearby cities and discourages businesses from opening inside our city. A mixed blessing. Anyways, 121 (our local freeway soon to be tollway) is SO backed up during rush hour. This new side road could take off a few minutes of my drive, or at least allow me to drive through quiet, empty green fields rather than noisy pollution-filled traffic.

One last random thing: a co-worker whose last day was Friday gave me a thank you card and a small gift (a good luck charm from Singapore) for helping her out while she was here and making her feel part of the team. A little reminder that being nice to people makes a difference in their lives, and gave me a smile.

Good karma for you for just being a good human being.

Thanks. I’m sure I have plenty of karma debt though so I doubt I’m in the black yet ;-)
