A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

They’re EVEEEHHLLL!

In the news today:

The major networks admit to making shows run long to screw up people’s PVRs (like TiVos). The devices can’t overlap shows, so if you’re 8:00 ER runs until 9:02 and the new Simpsons starts at 9:00, you have to choose one or the other (thankfully we have a dual tuner so we can get around it a little). Rather than innovatively come up with a new way to get money (since people finally are empowered to skip annoying ads), the networks are acting like kids who had their toys taken away! Stupid!

Next, they decided to reject an ad that is pro-gay because it is ‘too controversial’. Read the article, then watch the ad on www.stillspeaking.com. There’s all of a 1/2 second of a gay couple in it, and it is a church basically saying ‘we welcome you with open arms’. That’s controversial?

Sometimes I have to pinch myself. *Ouch* No, I’m not dreaming, and I’m not in BizarroWorld (even if there are postcards for BizzaroWorld in the bus stop lounge).

Have you seen the ads for Philadelphia tourism that cater to gay couples? I thought it was cute; it’s a 1700s guy in a powdered wig writing a flowery note to his love to meet him at some historic building, and they lead you to believe it’s a girl by leaving out the personal pronouns, until at the end the girl walks right past him and a cute guy walks up instead! I guess Philly doesn’t advertise down there though–kind of a different climate up north!

I’ve noticed the TiVo issue and am more than happy with myself for ordering a double tuner… I’m even wondering if I shouldn’t have REALLY splurged and gotten a triple. The “Two minute warning” I put in all my recording options has saved me … although sometimes Lost on NBC STILL runs over.

Maybe we can find a “way” to help those network execs to kill themselves quietly like Bizarro Captain Hero did. Or maybe we can bet Bleh $50 to have sex with them.

Sorry, guess it took me a while to get around to approving some of these comments!! I have heard about some of those ads, I hear Philly is very gay friendly. We need to plan some trips up north some time soon.
