A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Well, Jeremy, Jeff, Ian and I survived New Orleans for New Years! Bourbon Street gets SO crowded at night!! It was a crazy trip, but a lot of fun. The city is so old it has a lot of beauty and the lively denizens give it plenty of charm, but I don’t think I could EVER live there.

Walking around the French Quarter during the day is a blast: old beautiful buildings with vines growing up the sides and tons of greenery on the balconies, and in the streets are magicians, street performers and great New Orleans jazz and blues bands. It’s like the city just exudes music, as you walk away from one band by the time they’re out of earshot you can hear the next one.

We stayed in a cute little hotel right in the quarter, Holiday Inn’s Chateau le Moyne. The only reason I wouldn’t give the hotel a great review is the management/service didn’t have their act together. They gave our room away and another couple’s to the wrong people, then kept messing up how many towels should be in our bathroom. Otherwise though, a fantastic place, and a suite for two couples was very reasonable for being in the quarter.

And on a final note, I will leave you all with a good piece of advice: don’t go to Pat O’Brien’s the day of your flight and have a few hurricanes. I’m amazed Ian, Jeremy, and I managed to get home!! ;-)
Happy New Years 2005 everybody!!!

From what I hear, Ian’s jeans are lucky to still be wearable. But who knows, maybe the pink spots make them even more fashionable. I just feel sorry for the people who had to sit near you on the plane! I would comment about airport security, but in NOLA I think they are used to it.
