A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

If you’re any kind of geek at all you know it’s Mac World and Jobs is pulling his usual last minute surprises out. Pretty neat stuff: a flash-based (non-skipping) tiny iPod, and a screenless computer (tiny little enclosed white box). You gotta love’em for the cool factor of their designs!

the iPod Shuffle is a good procut and was well overdue.

the Mac-mini OTOH is a great marketing gimmick. In terms of ‘computer power’ it does not compete with similary priced PCs. its a generation old now. Its a good way to get people to ’switch’ though. And if you just ‘have’ to have a Mac in your home.

I agree. The mini isn’t anything state of the art, but if Apple wants to expand their market share, it’s a great entry item. A person who’s contemplating a Mac will probably have extra monitors, keyboards, mice, etc. and for just a few hundred dollars can have a decent Mac. Try out the software, etc. I’ve thought before, it’d be cool to see what it’s like having one, but I’m never going to pay that much for a computer I might not use all the time.
