This is dead on regarding what needs to happen for web applications in the next decade. I really have to agree with the author that I like where Google is going. The great thing is I don’t think the media, even the tech media, really get it yet. By the time they do Google will have snuck ahead and will be providing all the services you need to a browser. Who cares what OS?
Will Google replace Micro$oft? Maybe, but in a different way. And I have a feeling that they will be far more benevolent overlords than the MS oppressor has been. ![]()

You are right. A great link/article. I think the thing that is touched upon in the article, is the fact that you can have many little tools doing things well (Gmail, Google Suggest, etc), rather than having one big tool doing them all not-so-well (Outlook is used as an example). Ever since I started using gMail, I have liked the interface (it’s clean) and the quickness of how it displays content. There are some annoyances, but they do not hinder my use of the tool. I’m finding this with a lot of other products that Google are introducing. Small tools that do things well.
February 25, 2005 @ 1:28 pmExactly. Do one thing well and not twenty things poorly. Same thing in convergence devices. I think Google is putting together a good ‘toolkit’ of many small apps that do single functions well. Slowly, they’ll knit them together to be cohesive and interrelated (but still single purpose).
