I want to quit and just do game design and write full time. Yes, it would pay absolutely squat but I would absolutely love doing it!
Ah, c’est la vie.
Ideas for stories and games have been swirling in my head lately to the point of distraction from work. And people like Jason Kottke don’t help (he just retired from his job to blog full time, the bastard!)
While I’m waiting for the opportunity to get some of my friends together to playtest K&E again, I need to go ahead and flesh out some of my other game ideas including Six Degrees (scroll to the bottom), and Election

No, but if you were blogging and designing games, you wouldn’t officially be retired
February 24, 2005 @ 10:13 amTrue. I should clarify. Retired from my day job sitting in a grey cubicle from 9-5!! ;-D
Besides, if I did those all day I don’t think I could consider it work.
February 24, 2005 @ 10:24 amI wish I had a job that didn’t require a commute! They don’t happen nearly as often anymore since I’m just going from Frisco to Addison, but today on the Tollway was “one of those days.”
February 24, 2005 @ 12:38 pmBobby, I just had a look at those games and they sound really fun! Election sounds awesome! Maybe what you should do is figure out a way to manufacture the games yourself and sell them over the internet or to local stores, or maybe even make a pitch to some store chains.
February 24, 2005 @ 12:49 pmI should build a prototype of it soon. You can self-publish and promote to stores, I just bought a book that talks about some of the different strategies to get your game out there. Also, I’ve joined a forum for game designers (Board Game Designer’s Forum bgdf.com) where there’s a lot of good advice.
Like in writing once you self-publish something it’s sort of tarnished by the major publishers (old school mind setting of if I can’t have all of it then I don’t want any of it), but it is the way many games have made it big.
February 24, 2005 @ 1:10 pmI retired when I was 30 (I have the certificate of retirement to prove it).
Mind you, I had a lovely Tasmanian Oak office with large windows, and I think it was the same size as Chris office (I was only mid-level).
February 25, 2005 @ 1:00 pmOnce I work my way up to an office that nice then I’ll retire too!
