Ok, seriously, if you’re reading this, post a comment and tell me how you think I should handle this.
The guy next to me chats non-stop! On the phone, in person. And I’m not even trying to insinuate whether he gets his job done or not. I think he does a decent job at it. When he talks to people about work issues, they do discuss work, it’s just that he goes on tangents, etc.
If someone mentions a DVD, he talks about the troubles he had with a recent DVD player, which brand it was, where he went to read reviews, which one he replaced it with, how he likes it better than VHS, etc. You get the idea. And he’s fully of just *oh so witty* idioms and sayings on life.
He’s driving Pradeep and I insane with his chatter. I don’t want to go to his boss and say “he’s not doing his job”, but I am tempted to ask her to talk to him about perhaps keeping conversations work-focused and taking private conversations elsewhere. So here are your options, select only one:
A) Talk to his boss privately that his private conversations sometimes tend to be a bit distracting and ask her to talk to him about taking private calls into a conference room or elsewhere
B) Talk to him directly about this (how embarassing!)
C) Do nothing
D) Do something else (i.e. tell his boss he does nothing but chat all day so he’ll get fired)
HELP!!
We had this same problem a while back. Several of us talked to our manager who in turn talked to the manager of the chatter-box. It worked.

March 30, 2005 @ 10:03 pmI agree with Tracy - A, but talk to your own boss (when you get one) lol
March 30, 2005 @ 10:54 pmThanks for the advice. My co-worker and I sent an e-mail to this guy’s boss so we’ll see where that goes.
