A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Wil’s got an excellent summary of the dastardly REAL ID act which was passed by the House of Representatives without debate. Contact your reps and tell them how upset you are this was passed, particularly without any debate despite public opinion against it. Get the Senate and the President to stop it.

Otherwise, come May 2008, we’ll have national ID cards which can be requested at any time by any law enforcement official even of innocent individuals. Since everyone will have one, companies can compile universal databases of them and synchronize them with the government, much like the airline passenger screening systems Congress keeps trying to implement. Uncle Sam and marketers will know who you are, where you’ve been, what you’ve bought. Suspicious activities will be monitored.

Welcome to the PSA: The Police States of America. ;-)
