Bummer. I went to sync up my new audiobook last night to the iPod and the notorious disk problem reared its ugly head. This time though it has well and truly won. I re-installed the iPod software, ran the disk check, everything. It will sync up a few songs before you hear the disk catching and eventually both iPod and iTunes lock up, and finally the PC does as well.
So, first I went to the iPod site. A new 20 GB model is $300, but if I’m buying a new one I want to upgrade in size eventually. So, I went through their process to send it in for repairs out of warranty. Want to guess how much it is to send it in and get the hard drive replaced? About $270 plus tax. Yeah, $30 less than getting a new one. So, scratch that.
I thought I was pretty much screwed til I started looking around on the internets today and found places where you can send it in and get the disk replaced for just $170. So, even though that’s a whole bunch more money than I have laying around right now that’s what I’m going to do. Just trying to decide if I want the battery replaced right now too.
