I always go on about Japanese cars being more reliable. The J.D. Powers dependability study came out today and apparently Lexus is on top. It didn’t specifically say where Honda was, but I did find this report from last year. I’m surprised Honda is way down at 6th and 7th (for Acura), with even some American companies beating them. Still, between Toyota/Lexus, Infiniti, and Honda/Acura they beat most of the American brands. It’s also interesting to compare the number of problems per 100 cars by brand.
Surprisingly the European car companies are actually at the bottom in terms of long term reliability!
Here’s a good quote:
According to Joe Ivers, partner and executive director of quality/customer satisfaction at J.D. Power and Associates, “The Domestics are putting their money where their mouths are in terms of consistent long-term quality improvement.” He added, “However, while the Domestics continue to outpace the Europeans in long-term quality, the Japanese continue to dominate.”
Let me know if any of you out there find the ranking for Honda this year.
Being a semi-car fanatic (no jokes on the “semi”, okay?) since late last year, I found it interesting, too, about the domestic vehicles. Unfortunately, it has translated yet into sales for the Big 3. Most of us buyers are thinking, “it’s still too early” and “who’d they pay to change that score?”
Did you know that Toyota bankrolls a lot of Consumer Reports costs?
