Well, it’s something I’ve been meaning to have us do now for quite some time. Ian and I are finally going to get our wills, medical power of attorney, etc. other documents done. It’s not a marriage, but a stack of legal documents will be as close as we get anytime soon in this state. Plus, I think it’s just smart to do even if you’re not in a relationship.
I’m not sure how it all works, what documents we need, etc. We’re going with the lawyer I’ve linked to below whom Chris & James told us about. She’s either gay or gay-friendly, not sure which, but either way I wouldn’t want to do this kind of business with someone who has issues with my life. Plus, she’s right here in The Colony so we’re keeping our dollars local. ![]()
Anyway, my point is that if you’re like me and know about jack and squat about wills and other legal documents, I’ll be blogging about the whole process and what I learn. Perhaps it can be of benefit to you.
It may set us back a few hundred dollars, but I’m glad there will be someone there making sure we do everything right and telling us what we do and don’t need. Hopefully this way if something should ever happen, god forbid, we won’t have issues with hospital visitation, authority to make medical decisions, inheritance, etc. I don’t think either of our families would ever do anything to get in the way, but these documents should just help ensure peace of mind in tough times.
I’m purposefully NOT completing a Medical Power of Attorney because I want Congress to pass a law especially for me when my brain has shriveled to half its normal size.
I figure it’s the most assured way to get my 15 minutes of fame.
