Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, I know I did.
We saw War of the Worlds a few days ago. Ehh. It was intense at times, and cool special effects. Tom Cruise just didn’t fit the role. They made variations from the original storyline that just didn’t have any point. Wasn’t impressed, but didn’t hate it either.
Friends came over Saturday for burgers, followed by fireworks over Lake Lewisville. I always enjoy seeing the fireworks each year. It’s one of those traditions that ties you to everyone else and reminds you of all the years past. ![]()
Sunday was a spur of the moment drive down to see my grandparents in East Texas. The dogs loved running around the farm. Ian and I picked lots of fresh blueberries (well, Ian picked a bunch, I picked a few, ate a few, then headed in from the heat!). By chance my parents, sister, and nephew were there so we got to visit and all help out making the meal and cleaning up a little.
Finally Monday was swimming and burgers over at my sister and brother-in-law’s house. A fun, relaxing end to a long weekend.
Last night I had another bout of my occasional insomnia. Not sure what causes it. Since it was a three day weekend and I think I stayed up late each night my body was perhaps just not ready to switch back to my work week schedule. I tried warm milk and honey which I’ve heard is supposed to work, then I took a sleeping pill, and that did the trick. I hate having to resort to those though, as I wake up groggy as hell and I don’t feel like I got that much rest. Still, better than staying up all night.
There’s been plenty to comment on lately with the United Church of Christ set to approve gay marriage and a Supreme Court retirement! I’ll try to comment on all that later in the week if work slows down.
Sounds like a great time. How was the weather out there?
