A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

We got new laptops at work today. It will be a good thing, eventually. Once we get everything working. They forgot to do a little thing like test the connection to the development servers before handing them to all the developers. With a little sweat and tears you CAN get to the development environment, but it kills your internet/e-mail connection and sometimes locks up the PC. I mean come on, isn’t this one of those critical things they should have checked?

They’re faster, 1.6 Ghz processor, and 1.5 GB RAM which is really nice. Surprisingly though, they don’t seem to multi-task very well. If I open a compressed folder and browse the files, or do anything that takes a moment or two of processing time, if I go click on something else, nothing happens for several seconds. On the old laptop there might be a brief pause but nothing as bad as what I’ve seen today. Hopefully it won’t be like this consistently.

The other big plus is moving to Outlook from Crapwise (Groupwise). They forgot to copy some of our calendars over though, including mine. Minor detail. So I have no idea when my appointments are.

So, gradually I’m getting everything back in place though I have to do internet stuff, then shut everything down and do tasks related to the development environment, then switch back, etc. Real pain in the ass.

But, it’s making the day go by. ;-)
