Well, writing continues over on my “Creativity Palette” blog. Don’t worry, I won’t constantly keep linking to it shouting “read my stuff!”. Well, not constantly. Just every now and then. ![]()
No, seriously I’d love to hear feedback on what I do over there from any of you who are interested in writing or are aspiring writers yourselves. The latest thing I’m going to try is to just write any situation, with any characters, that pops into my head, however long it takes me to write it. Suggest a situation and characters, and I’ll give it a go. Hopefully that will help me hone intense, interesting, riveting writing that conveys characters, plot, setting, and mood.
My latest world setting which is a mix of sci-fi and fantasy goes in kicks and starts. I want to write more in it, and give it the time it deserves to let the characters, plot points, etc. mature, but I just draw a blank when I face it. I’m just writing down anything I think of the world or the characters’ histories for now.
Another approach I still am planning to take, just haven’t made the first step yet of actually buying a subscription, is to start receiving one of the sci-fi magazines and read the short stories to understand what is published, then attempt to write something publishable. Not an emulation or simulacra of one of the published works per se, but understand the writing styles, plot structures, scope and intensity of what is currently accepted.
