Good lord. One stupid e-mail can cause a world of pain. The e-mail I sent yesterday to our product leads and my fellow tech leads about the web mail being shut down caused a ruckus. If I’d just waited 10 more minutes I would have seen that it was to protect us from the virus (or the dumbasses in IT security could have let us know before hand they might do that sort of thing from time to time).
My manager pulled me in yesterday afternoon to express how upset she was, and then I was supposed to meet with her manager today but he never had any free time so I got a pass on that one. Hopefully by Monday he’ll have forgotten.
One of the big things they were upset about was my e-mail and the replies went to contractors, and we shouldn’t be airing our dirty laundry for contractors to see. I agree completely, it was my fault on that one. We have a group of leads who are considered the leaders on our team, and typically they are employees but lately we’ve put a couple in that role that are tech leads. Then, another guy on my team made choice that I don’t completely understand to reply and include our manager’s manager on it, which is completely not what I wanted to have happen, I wanted to discuss it at the level with our managers and let them push the issue up. Anyway, another guy who is sometimes a little too glib in the office replied to all (including the high level manager) with remarks like “stick it to the man!” (I’m not kidding)
So we had a team meeting this morning to ‘air our concerns’ and make sure we all properly communicate issues in the future.
What a freaking pain in the ass. Last time I ever speak up for other people on my team when we have a legitimate concern.
