I use Google as my spell check now. Not sure how to type in a word? Type it into Google and hit search. If you misspell it, Google politely asks the stupid human, “did you mean …” with the correct spelling.
Well I was looking at my blog yesterday and realized I hadn’t posted much but a few links lately. So in the afternoon I went to post, and couldn’t access my blog (or my e-mail)! After I’d gone through the most painful part of withdrawal, I pulled myself together and went on with my day. Turns out we had a power outage at the house.
Not that I have an awful lot to blog about, but here goes.
Recently watched The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys which we’d Tivo’ed some time back. I enjoyed it. A bunch of boys in a Catholic school who pull off crazy pranks and draw a comic to release their angst against their teachers and the world, and along the way learn some life lessons.
We went with Chris to see Saw II at the theater the other night. I’m glad they went with a different plot formula than the first one, and it kept you guessing. It had a nice gruesome link-in back to the original. These movies are horrifically gory (almost too much for me), sick and twisted. All in all a relatively enjoyable horror film. ![]()
My current reading is Absolution Gap by Alastair Reynolds, the last in the Revelation Space trilogy, and American Gods by Neil Gaiman (I read one at work at lunch and one at home just before I go to bed). I’ll have reviews up on both once I finish. Both are very enjoyable so far. I’m really wanting to read Neil Gaiman’s Sandman as that is the work I hear the most accolades about. I think it’s either a comic or graphic novel, I just have to locate it.
I bought Depeche Mode’s new album off iTunes, Playing the Angel. I’m glad it goes back more to their roots than the last few albums, but it still overall just didn’t impress me that much. There are a few good tracks on there, and I think a few more will grow on me. Precious is my favorite at the moment.
In roleplaying news (meaning 80% of you will skip this!), I got the GURPS Character Assistant for creating characters on the computer. The look is kludgy and butt-ugly, but very functional. They extracted all the data into data files you can manipulate. Editors to create templates and such are coming next, but for now I created the racial templates for the races in my world I’m planning to GM by hand. Took a while, but it’s done and I’ve already rolled out several characters. The program definitely saves time over pencil and paper. I also bought a large vinyl hex map. I had one years ago but somewhere along the way I guess I figured I wouldn’t be playing any more or wouldn’t need it and tossed it. Next on my list is Dundjinni. I’m really itching to get that mapping software!
Finally, did our annual pumpkin carving at C&J’s house which was fun as always, along with some classic horror movies (Halloween and Nightmare on Elm Street). I can’t believe that was Johnny Depp in Nightmare. So young! And yet still so hot. Last night was trick or treating at my sister’s house. My nephews were adorable as Superman and Darth Vader.
