A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Well there’s so much going on in the political arena of late you’re expecting me to comment on it, aren’t you? Shocked even that I haven’t lately, perhaps?

*Shrug* Politics as usual, not to sound too cynical (too late!). It’s not THAT bad, there are people who do good things in office, and the world’s not going to end due to bad politics tomorrow. But, it’s tiring to see the parties do one thing, then yell at the other party for doing the same thing. The rhetoric is so intense, so back and forth. The Democrats seem to have no spine and suddenly speak up like they should have been doing and are painted as whiny and extremist, when the Republicans have long had extremist locked up as their own title for years now.

Honestly I’m just tired of this administration and Republican party leadership which has abused its position of majority power, and tired of Democrats who whine, grovel, and play the game too much only to be just as bad when they have the ball in their court.

I’m seriously interested in a moderate who will actually try to “unite, not divide” our country. Try things like be pro-choice but anti-abortion (it could work you know, support giving women the choice, but personally encourage people to work to make abortions as rare as possible — I won’t go on too much of a tangent, it’s a post for another day, but there is the possibility of a position like this). Support a simple legal arrangement for any two individuals who will be caring for each other’s finances and health which would give basic rights in marriage to gays and many others, but not make gay relationships ’share’ marriage with heterosexuals. The possibilities here are endless. I actually intend to elaborate these middle-of-the-line positions when I have more time (and feel like it), but I thought I’d at least state why I haven’t been exploding off on my blog of late with recent news.

The two Americas need to come to the table and be willing to give some to get some. To make compromises and move on to fix other issues. To encourage experimentation at the city, county, school district and state level which when proven successful is implemented on a broader scale. To foster a national sense of respect, tolerance, pride, and personal involvement. That we fix our problems by communicating with others and reaching reasonable compromises. That we institute incentive programs and recognition for the things that matter: charitable people, acts, and organizations; teachers; doctors, etc.

Agree with almost everything you say! There is a sad lack of respect & tolerance by both political parties. It seems that the divisiveness that is correctly going on is showing disrepect to the vast majority of citizens of this country. We want to get along & the politicians are catering to the small vocal extremist on each side, furthering our disrespect for politicians.

That should have been currently, not correctly.
