A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

I was actually thinking the other days minimum wage laws should be structured this way, so I’m glad to hear that some places like California have already done this: minimum wage laws called “living wages” based on indices (which are in turn based on the average cost of things like bread, gas, etc.). Not being […]

I signed up to try out the new Yahoo! Mail Beta and finally got it today. It obviously heavily utilizes the great functionality Oddpost provided including drag and drop, “tabbed” message viewing, message previews, etc. Overall a great, smooth interface that feels more like a desktop app than a webtop app.
They still have some work […]

…no law respecting an establishment of religion
Yes, I know I’m in the minority on this one, even with liberals, about the words “under god” in the pledge of allegiance. (Which aren’t the original words, BTW, they were ADDED!). But as an atheist, saying those words does chafe.
But Congress trying to pass a law requiring […]

Yay! They’re finally making progress in the war zone/disaster area that is SH 121 in front of our city. For those of you in the area, the new southbound lanes of 121 through The Colony and parts of Plano will be opened on Saturday July 1st. Now, they’re moving from an old 2 lane road […]

Huh. I’d heard about this when Google launched it, the Google Web Toolkit (GWT). But I hadn’t read about it til now. It’s very unusual. It’s a way of programming web applications in Java, but it is MUCH more akin to programming a client side GUI application than it is a web application. The GWT […]

Or, “Glad to hear, sad to hear”.
I’m glad to hear the surgeon general come out with this announcement attacking smoking and especially second hand smoke, saying it is involuntary smoking and it harms and even kills non-smokers. I love that he said non-smoking sections don’t help, only completely banning smoking helps. Now, you can […]

Very glad to see this technology coming out. I had the idea for it a while back and obviously others have as well. A touchscreen is neat, well and good and all, but you don’t have the tactile feedback of a typical input device. In other words, you can’t feel the buttons. It’s the biggest […]

I’ve had the worlds of Aerus (the Skylands), and Geisa floating around in my head for sometime as well as the adventures of Chathik and Ryell, the main characters in the two worlds and novels, respectively. I even occasionally relive the adventures as if I’ve just read them. The problem is, I haven’t. They’re worlds, […]

This is a really great interview with Sam Harris, an atheist and author of “The End of Faith”. A very frank look at how religious beliefs that are not able to be validated by logic or science serve only to divide us as a human race. He’s not saying people can’t be spiritual or have […]

I watched Good Night and Good Luck last night. The movie was decent. Fairly slow, and not all that much happens. It details Edward R. Murrow’s investigation on television of Senator McCarthy’s anti-communism witch hunts in the 50s. Scary to think we were there just 50 years ago, when people in media were afraid to […]
