A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Well I had every intention of boring you all to tears with every little detail of the wedding planning. But it didn’t really turn out to be that complicated so I haven’t posted much. When it’s all said and done I’ll post some of the URLs of the places we used.

We ended up getting our rings at Ice House Jewelers in West Village. Nice store, nice people, and good selection. Just over six weeks before the wedding. (Funny, at the time the pessimist in me thought, wow, we’re waiting a bit too close to the wedding to get our rings). How long to make? Under two weeks we’re told. Oh, whew. No problem.

Two full weeks later, they tell us they can’t make it with the metals they told us. Hmm, why did it take two weeks to figure that out? Ok, we’ll they’ll be ready in, you guessed it, two weeks.

Two weeks later (yep, two weeks til the big day), they call. The little stone keeps chipping in the cut we requested. Can we put it in another cut? Sure, whatever, just do it. When will it be ready? Early next week.

Well, it’s now a week later. I call them. Three times. Finally I get someone. The metal is taking longer to drill through than they thought. He was told 1-2 weeks when he sent it in….last Thursday. So, yep, it’ll be ready he anticipates on the 7th. Plenty of time since we leave on the 8th.

Let’s just say I will be far from thrilled to get married and not have my wedding ring there. The whole thing isn’t legal anyways so doing it without one more fairly crucial, key element just, well, is kind of sucky. ;-)
So, I’m not praising Ice House, nor am I trashing them. Just telling you how it is. My only recommendation is this. If you plan to get wedding rings, get them at least 6-9 months before your wedding.
