A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Well, as my hubby describes it all far too well, I won’t repeat, much. Ian and I were married in Key West on June 10th, 2006 with our close friends and family nearby in the beautiful Hemingway House gardens. Everything went wonderfully, and I’m SO glad we did it. But I’m also glad it’s over! ;-) The planning, even on a simple wedding like this one, can be a headache. I’m also really glad my family got to take a trip together as we’ve been talking about doing it for a while but hadn’t until now. We got to spend some time together, and everyone also had the opportunity to go off and do their own thing.

Key West is a beautiful tropical location right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A. You’ve got beaches, snorkeling, pools and lots of sun and beautiful foliage. The nice thing I like about Key West as opposed to a place like Mexico is you’ve also got a great small bustling city in the middle of it with good shops, restaurants and clubs. So you get a bit of the tropics, and a bit of a party city like New Orleans.

We learned that with high load factor (that’s airline industry speak meaning how full the plane is) this summer (and future summers), it’s best to just buy tickets for air travel for those few months each year. We just barely made it back from Fort Lauderdale. But, the important thing is, we did!

It’s odd getting back to your house, your pets, and your routine after a long break. Sometimes I think it’s beneficial for your mental health just for that part of it: to break out of your routine. Things that had become virtually invisible in your life now stand out a bit as something new and different. At least for a little while. All in all though, it’s good to be home. ;-)

I’m going to second you on the getting away from the routine. And what a way to want to catch up on sleep :-) I’ve slept rock-solid these past two nights :-) It’s been nice!
