A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

Vic, Jon, Naji, Marcia and I got together this weekend for some GURPS down in Austin. This time we broke away from the traditional fantasy genre for a supernatural/horror modern day adventure I put together. It was fun, very different tackling a different time period and genre. Working out how guns work changed things significantly.

I kept the adventure short, so we had time to play plenty of board and card games. I loved some of the new ones we played. Fluxx was fun card game where the game itself is all about changing the rules of the game. We also played the new World of Warcraft board game which is based on/inspired by the online game. Let me just say, holy cow. It was the most chit-ilicious game I’ve ever seen (chit is all the little pieces in board games: tokens, money/life counters, card decks, etc.) At first I was rather daunted and a bit overwhelmed. Like some great games that require some patience and investment in learning the game such as Axis and Allies, it pays off in the end. Setup takes some time, and your first round is slow figuring it all out, but then it quickly makes sense and turns out to be a great game with a lot of dynamic elements that are surprisingly balanced.
