Cuz I just woke up to a nice big present!
Thank God! It’s about time. I’m sure the Republican loser will sue in Virginia. What is it in America these days? Democrats and Republicans can’t lose gracefully and have to sue for recount after recount. There’s sometimes a legitimate reason for a recount, but usually you just need to bow out with grace.
I like how Bush is already trying to frame this as the Democrats fault if they don’t just bowl over and agree with his agenda. Ha! Welcome to reality. You’re the chief of the executive, not the legislative branch. Congress makes laws, you enforce them. It’s been a courtesy all these years that the President gets to state an agenda and work (that means compromise and negotation!) with Congress to try and achieve it.
I truly hope sanity is restored to not just the House but the Senate as well. We’ll just have to see. But I’m so thankful enough Americans awoke from their media-induced stupor and pulled us back from the brink. The last six years have been an absolute nightmare of rights violations, isolationism, childish government, corruption, and the most extreme divisive politics we’ve seen in this country ever. I have no doubt Bush and the GOP will pout, cross their arms, and refuse to sign anything the Democratically controlled House wants (or Bush will just use his Constitutionally-questionable power of putting little frown emoticons next to sections of law he doesn’t like and won’t enforce), but at the very least we’ll have stalemate at the federal level for the next two years. Someone once told me that the best situation you can ever hope for at the federal level in Washington is to have gridlock: one party controlling Congress, the other the White House. I thought them a cynic at the time. Ha! How little I knew then. It’s a godsend now.
