The article headline says it all. As much as I’m loathe to say it about the man who played “The Terminator”, I’m impressed with his ability to work with, and promote legislation from, both political parties. This is what we need to move forward in America. The opposite of this, sticking to your guns no matter how wrong you might be, is possibly what may be the downfall of America.
The same thing applies to religion in my opinion. If you share similar beliefs with someone on religion or politics, you’ll naturally congregate, document your shared thoughts, and find others like you. That’s fine. But both systems today have become black and white. Christianity is right and Islam is wrong, or vice versa. Democrats are right and Republicans are wrong, and vice versa.
We need leaders of all types who are willing to look openly at a problem, respectfully take in input from their peers, and collaboratively determine the best solution. Do your personal beliefs factor heavily into this decision? Certainly. But they’re not the ONLY option.
Do I agree with every decision from moderates like Schwarzenegger (god that’s hard to spell), McCain, or Rodham Clinton? Hell no. But I shouldn’t expect to. Do I respect them for being willing to support “opposing” (never mind that terminology is what gets us into this trouble in the first place) groups’ views? Yes!
