I used to pick that as my name in online forums, etc. but more often than not it was taken. Always had a bit of a sylvan/elven feel to it. Well this morning there were silver leaves all about! DFW had quite an ice storm blow in this weekend, so Ian and I huddled up inside and read books, watched tv and surfed the web til we were about to go crazy from cabin fever (well, I was at least!). Still, it’s kind of nice to have a weekend of absolutely nothing, even if it is imposed upon you!
This morning the ice hadn’t melted, and while Ian had the day off for MLK day, I had to go in. The ride was off to a roaring start when I tried to make a right turn and my car instead decided to skid through the intersection (luckily no accident, I just decided to go straight through!). Most people were safe drivers, though occasionally someone shot by going 30 or 40 mph faster than they should have been. One car was off to the side a good thirty yards from the road, I can only imagine what that must have been like.
But after all the tension from the slow drive over the ice, I had a pleasant surprise near the airport. Groves of trees, barren of their leaves, had ice frozen to each and every limb. As the sun rose behind them, it created a forest of trees seemingly coated in leaves of silver and glass. It was truly stunning (I had to keep stealing glances as I tried to focus on the road).
