So they released a new version of our intranet web site today. (ooohh!! aaahhh!!). I went to go check it out and it looks like ass. I think “huh, why would they release it looking so bad?” Then it clicked. I’m in Firefox. So I opened it up in IE and it looks great. I shot off a complaint to their support department and their response was that they had “improved” Jetnet by “optimizing” it for IE 6.0. Apparently if I’m using Netscape or Firefox I’m supposed to “upgrade” to IE 6.0.
So, I shot off a reply telling them that was a stupid decision in this day and age to code to a specific browser rather than the latest standards (which even IE 6.0 adheres to, it just also runs “optimizations” as well). That is just bad web design and people know better now. You got away with that mistake in the late 90s and could claim naivete, but not now.
Perhaps you could suggest that it would save a lot of money if they just coded the AA site for one browser. It shouldn’t affect business that much *wink*
