American society continues to confound me. First everyone balks at the idea of gay marriage, rushing through amendments and laws to ban it. Then, not a year or two later, legislature after legislature is passing civil union and domestic partnership bills. The list below are states which allow gay marriages, civil unions, domestic partnerships or a number of marriage-like benefits to same sex couples (or will shortly - they’ve already passed the law and all indications point to governors signing them in):
- Massachusetts
- Oregon
- Vermont
- Connecticut
- California
- New Jersey
- Maine
- Washington
- New Hampshire
- Hawaii
And this list is by no means meant to be complete (I’m not going to do that much research for a blog post!), it’s just the list I snagged from an article today about Oregon approving a domestic partnership bill. I’m glad to see we’re making progress.
