A Zen gay Texan’s perspective

Ian and I saw Sicko last night, Michael Moore’s new documentary on the state of the managed health care system today in the United States. It was his typical style. If you haven’t seen any of his work yet, you should. You may not agree with every point he tries to make, but he definitely gets his point across to his viewers and to many people in his film as he does a no holds barred style documentary. He occasionally veered off course on to other topics and I didn’t completely agree with all of them, and most of what he brought up I had heard of before about U.S. health care vs. other countries, but it really hit home when I had it all in front of me.

One of the main points he makes is a comparison of our privatized health care system vs. the socialized medicine available in all other Western nations (we’re the only ones without universal health care in the first world nations). In France, Canada, and Great Britain the amount of care you receive for free is astounding. Now, obviously it is paid for by taxes, but one former member of the U.K. Parliament who spoke in the film put it best: pay according to your means, receive help according to your needs.

See this film, then do something about it to make a difference!
