A Zen gay atheistic Texan’s perspective

So for those of you curious about our progress on the adoption process, we had our home study done Saturday afternoon. I’m so, so glad we found Susan. I went into it with zero stress knowing she’d keep it low key and she didn’t disappoint. It was actually just a long, great conversation about parenting, childhood. Kind of felt like a therapy session or something! ;-) It was interesting to talk to someone else about personal intimate issues like what Ian and I’s relationship is like, memories of my parents when I was a kid.

She has a good point when she told us what she focuses on and why (to determine if we’ll be good parents), is you tend to parent how you were parented. I’ll just throw in the token nod to my parents here and say I think I’ll do a decent job if that theory is true because I was raised by two people who worked very hard to provide for me and my siblings and who cared about us a great deal. :-D

So, the next step is for her to finish the paperwork. We then apply with Independent Adoption Center out in Atlanta, Georgia and attend a weekend orientation session they have for all new prospective adoptive parents. Next, we put our ‘book’ together that sort of sells us as good potential adoptive parents (birth mothers/fathers look at these letters/books about each parent(s) they might select) and wait for the right match to come along.

Ian’s sister is due in October, my sister-in-law is due in March, and I’m hoping we’ll have a little bundle by next summer so we should have a whole handful of new babies in the family soon!
