Well, wii finally got a Nintendo Wii
Ian and I have been considering it now for a few weeks. We started looking around, but they were never in stock anywhere. Ian found a site, itrackr.com, which lets you search local stores for whatever you’re looking for. And it worked. He got an e-mail one morning with a list of stores, and like a couple of hard core geeks we staked out two stores and got one as soon as they opened.
Kudos to Nintendo for breaking the mold of the video game and creating an entirely new way to interface with the system. The wiimote and nunchuk allow for creative, intuitive ways of moving in 3-D space. I’m glad to see them outselling the competition. While the XBox 360 and PS3 both deliver great graphics (which the Wii is actually capable of doing as well, it’s just not as known for it) and have decent online experiences, they just don’t have any incredible innovation in them like the Wii. It’s going to be interesting to see how game developers use this new toolset and what will evolve to become the de facto standards which users will come to expect. For example, swinging the wiimote side to side seems to always make a sword swing.
By the way, if you’re a Wii player, send Ian and I your Wii system id and we’ll do the same so we can share Miis, etc.
