Ian, my mom and I attended a performance of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra featuring Bernadette Peters last night at the Meyerson. All in all a very enjoyable performance. Peters is more to Ian’s liking than mine so I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy myself. Turns out I was pleasantly surprised.
The evening began with the DSO performing renditions of popular classic television show theme songs, which was very cute. I managed to recognize several. I think it’s a sad statement that I’ve watched too much television over the years. As they played the Dallas theme song, I could actually flash back all those years and see the opening credits as they would fly over the mansion and then show Larry Hagman walking into a room.
Peters is approaching sixty I think (when did all the stars I know get so old?), but she was dazzling in a sparkly dress and her trademark big, frizzy red hair. She did a number of Broadway tunes. With my limited exposure to musicals (yeah, I know, tear up my gay card!), I still recognized several. My favorite was her dead on cover of “Fever”.
It’s always nice too to dress up and enjoy some culture. The Meyerson is an absolutely beautiful performance hall which even my tin ear can tell has great acoustics.
Tear up your gay card?
Honey, you never came to pick it up; how can we tear it up.
Now come visit Mother.
Love you,
