I just did some browsing and thinking and thought of some others. Writing them down lest I forget:
* Overcoming temptation - A hero/heroine realizes they have the potential for power, perhaps even that can be used in some good ways. The person might even try to obtain/harness the power for a while, but learns that the power will ultimately consume them. Or, they will realize the temptation of evil of great power and avoid it completely once witnessing the damage it has done to another. Tolkien’s ring tempts the hobbits, the dark side of the force tempts Lucas’ Jedi knights, etc.
* Experiencing the complexities of the real world/emerging from youth to an adult - This is one I am interested in and wish to find a good story to tell it. Things are not black and white as one enters the adult world. There are unfortunately real world circumstances that make good people do bad things. A possible story is someone who searches for someone they believe is good only to find out the bad things they have done. Perhaps then they are set on defeating this person they consider evil, but in the end they come to the realization that the ‘evil’ person regrets what they have done and have already paid the price by living with their crimes/mistakes for so long.
