This power has a lot of room to grow, but for now and the foreseeable future
he has only a fraction of his ability.
What he actually can do is shift anything to and from his current location/time
in our dimension/plane, to/from any other dimension, at any point in time in
those other dimensions. Incredibly powerful, but also limited: he can’t see
when or where he’s sending to/pulling from without some other aid (technology,
magic, etc.), he can only see what’s happening in his world. If he ever learned
he is sending stuff somewhere that may be killing another person, he’d probably stop
using his powers. Unfortunately, he doesn’t know.
Right now, he’s only aware of his sending ability, and it’s very limited. He can only
’send’ a 3-d shape (a sphere, a cube, etc.) of varying size. As far as he’s concerned,
he views his ability as the ability to ‘destroy’ something as it just disappears
Here are the current limitations (which are actually only in his mind in the way he
learned his ability, he can be trained to unlearn these restrictions):
*It takes time to destroy more matter. He can do roughly 1′x1′x1′ instantly, with
no costs to himself
*Doing more takes time and physically strains him. His maximum now is probably
a small room (10′x10′x10′). That might take several seconds and a few fatigue or
health.
*Also, a side effect of anything larger than his smallest displacement (and this
is just a reality, will always be here), is air must rush in to fill the void.
Depending on the size, a short bang is heard, and air rushes by. If it’s big, the
air moving in could be enough to knock people over (eventually could use this as
an attack)
*He must be able to see what he’s destroying, and preferably touch it
If we play these characters for a while, here’s a ‘growth plan’ for his abilities, these
could happen in various order:
*Move larger amounts with less time and fatigue
*Be able to displace without seeing or touching
*Learn how to retrieve. If he were trained about other dimensions and knew about
another one in particular and roughly where something was, he can kind of sense it and
obtain it, but it would be a bit of a guess.
*When he gets faster and more sure of his abilities, in an attack he could
make a vacuum (displace empty air) behind an enemy, the air rushing in would cause
knockback
More about the character in general:
Eric Strickland was skinny and smart when he was young. His bright red hair and
freckles made him stand out. One day a bully pushed him to the ground and started
pounding on him in a deserted house Eric had made the mistake of taking a shortcut
through. Enraged, Eric just wished the bully would go away. To his shock and surprise,
he did. Poof. Gone. In fact, a spherical cutout in the old walls of the house around
where the bully had stood was gone too, even a divet in the ground. Eric would have
stayed there longer contemplating what happened, but the house began to collapse and he
rushed out.
Slowly, fearfully, Eric destroyed small things by touch, and then even a few things across
a room. Never, ever, again did he want to kill a person like that. No one could ever
deserve such treatment.
Although Eric had heard rumors lately about more and more people with ‘abilities’, he kept
his hidden. Luckily for him his need to eliminate bullies went away. He grew and matured,
filling out and his wild red hair and bright freckles actually turned into assets.
Now, Eric is a young, attractive adult. He’s smart, and in good shape physically. He played
lacrosse and was on the swim team, as well as competed in computer science challenges. Very
ethical and honest (hiding his abilities is the one lie he’ll commit), he always had an interest
in how computers worked, and has learned a number of hacking skills, though he never uses them
to do damage or steal anything.
Eric’s biggest downfall is he’s probably a little too trusting, honest, and naive about just
how manipulative and unethical some people can be. Surreptitiously, he uses his ability to
help others when he can (a few robbers guns have been examined by the police after their
arrest, for some reason a spherical hole has broken the guns in two)
