Thought of a new idea for a board game. It would appeal to the fantasy gamer/hobbyist. In other words, the serious gamer. If you’re familiar with Talisman it would be slightly similar.
Each person is playing a thief in a medieval city. You’re each trying to vie for the top spot in the Thieve’s guild. The board is a series of spaces that are the roads and alleys of the city, and a few spaces are shops or homes. There is a manor in the center of town which is a good portion of the game board. Exploring the city the thieves will encounter items (lockpicks), thugs, the guard, and can improve their skills trying to steal from various shops and houses. Skills include Stealth, Lockpicking, Climbing, etc.
When a person is good enough, they try to get into the manor and steal something from the vault. They can climb the back wall, pick the lock on the front door, sneak past guards, etc. The vault has a small stack of treasure cards. For each treasure they successfully steal without having the guards find them and take them to the city jail they earn rank in the thieve’s guild by bringing the item somewhere. (They have to make it back without having someone else steal the item from them!)
One of the items is an extremely valuable item which the master of the guild wants for himself. The first one to bring it back is the new thieve’s guild master. It’s the luck of the treasure deck as to who gets that item, but I’m thinking it would be more challenging to get that one back to the guild so that the first person to make it in doesn’t always win.
This one will take a bit of work, but I thought I’d write it down while the idea was fresh in my mind. That and this blog has not seen many posts lately and my last post looked lonely!
