Not a sci-fi or fantasy, but a gay fiction. And not necessarily a happy one at that, though it could have a happy ending. It would follow a young adult woman (late teens, early 20s) who is a Christian conservative like her parents. Pro-life, anti-gay marriage, etc. She’s not foaming at the mouth conservative, but she does have the beliefs. Something triggers a series of events. Perhaps it’s having to deal with a gay student in her class trying to form a GSA. Her parents begin acting strange around the topic and get very upset when the girl gets some press from fighting the organization.
She and some conservative friends decide to meet with a gay group that supports the GSA and she meets an adult male gay couple. Something about them clicks with her and she starts having weird dreams, almost like memories. She tries to get to the root of it, asking her parents, etc. The memories seem to be from when she was very little. And she doesn’t remember her parents being around when she was little. Her parents act even stranger and lash out at her.
She has a memory of an amusement park, and an image of a particular roller coaster. She has a friend who is a geek and big amusement park fan and they search images until they find the park. They travel there to hope to find memories.
Through some series of events, more details click together. She eventually discovers she was raised by a gay male couple and abducted by her current parents who changed their names, moved across the country to hide her. She tracks down her original parents and has a tearful moment as she not only finds her true parents but breaks down her conservative beliefs that have been forced into her by her parents. Not yet 18, she confronts her parents who have tracked her down to her hometown, and tells them she’s living with her original parents until she’s 18 and never wants to see them again. Since the abductors can’t call the police, they give in.
