Blokus vs. Stix Shapes

Published on June 7, 2005

I wonder if Blokus is too similar to Stix Shapes? I don’t think so, the game board and pieces are similar, but the game play is somewhat different. It could easily be one of those “two in one” games, package Blokus with the Stix Shapes cards and voila! two games.

RPGs and Games

Well, I finished writing my first GURPS 4th Edition adventure which is set in my world called the Skylands. It’s part of a campaign arc that should last several sessions. Planning to play it with a couple of friends of mine, Chris and Jai. It will be interesting to have an all gay group roleplaying.
Also, […]

Thieve’s Guild

Published on May 9, 2005

Thought of a new idea for a board game. It would appeal to the fantasy gamer/hobbyist. In other words, the serious gamer. If you’re familiar with Talisman it would be slightly similar.
Each person is playing a thief in a medieval city. You’re each trying to vie for the top spot in the Thieve’s guild. The […]

Kingdoms & Empires: game element matrix

Published on February 6, 2005

Not sure how scientific this is, but in the interest of trying to take an organized approach to the design of K&E I attempted a relationship matrix. I think it comes in handy. It shows that I have no cards that negatively affect events, I need more cards to affect encounter cards, and more cards […]

Phew!

Published on February 2, 2005

Just finished a VERY VERY rough prototype of Kingdoms & Empires. Now I need to print it, cut it out and paste the cards to something, and give it a test run! I definitely need more variety of cards, but it is a start. To play, print the rules and cards. Cut the cards out […]

Six Degrees

Published on

Just a simple card game idea that is a variant on the famous “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon”. A deck of cards consisting of popular movies and actors from recent years. I.e. a card will have on it “Tom Cruise” or “Mission Impossible”. Players keep a hand of 12 cards. On a person’s turn they […]

More on Kingdoms & Empires

Fleshed out more of the rules in the game along with sample cards loosely based on the historical real world (no one shoot for me for stereotyping any culture or stretching things). And obviously the places are historically concurrent. I really want to try and make this game as I can see it cohesively working […]

Kingdoms & Empires

Published on January 29, 2005

This would be a card-based game, possibly with tiles but I’m leaning towards no board or tiles. Basically, each player is an emperor/empress, king or queen etc. This could be historically based (Egypt, Rome, etc.) or fantastical. The goal is of course to ‘rule the world’. Essentially think of it as the game Civilization simplified […]
