Urbis

Ian sent me a link to Urbis.com, a social networking site for writers. You publish your works and get reviews, and review others. Looks like it’s a well structured site and could be very useful!

Writing bug

Published on November 28, 2005

The writing bug is slowly, slowly re-awakening in me yet again. I need to build the right outline, then focus on properly fleshing it out. The setting should be something interesting. We read fantasy and sci-fi to go somewhere we can’t normally go, and do things we can’t normally do. Fly dragons, travel between the […]

Cross-posting this from my main blog, but here’s the Word version of my latest, a short campfire story, The Hitchhiker.

Writing

I’m going to occasionally post snippets of writing, just a scene that pops in my head or whatever. Practice writing different situations.
Dark and tired, weak and weary he trudged through the neverending sludge. Blackness coated his Dockers and torn Cole Haans as much as it did his soul. His eyes shone glints of red, reflecting […]

On writing

Published on August 6, 2005

And just what is it that compels me to write, or any of us for that matter? What is the point? What is it exactly that I hope to accomplish?
Fame and fortune? Well, those certainly would be nice to have. But that’s not what compels me. It’s something in the sensation I get in reading […]

Not writing, roleplaying ;-)

Published on April 19, 2005

I haven’t been writing lately, but I hope to start up again soon. That hobby should be in rotation shortly! Instead, I’ve been getting an atypical cleric (though he does have a flail) ready for Naji’s GURPS roleplaying campaign.
I’ve also been at work creating the Skylands world for the purpose of roleplaying and came up […]

Other archetypes

Published on March 28, 2004

Believing in something only to learn it is not what you thought. I.e. to fully believe a religion or government is benign and perfect, when actually it is either corrupt or has to do dirty things to get the overall job done. A quest to accomplish something for a cause when actually you must […]

Some other archetypes

Published on March 2, 2004

I just did some browsing and thinking and thought of some others. Writing them down lest I forget:
* Overcoming temptation - A hero/heroine realizes they have the potential for power, perhaps even that can be used in some good ways. The person might even try to obtain/harness the power for a while, but learns that […]

Hello..anybody home?

Published on

Not much has been happening on this I know. I’ve been busy with developing a GURPS fantasy adventure that was played last weekend (lots of fun!). I actually pulled the concept in a recent post, the Festival of the Amber Moon, from the adventure.
Hopefully I can find some more time to work on this […]

An image to give you an idea….

Published on January 16, 2004

After coming up with the idea for this world of a bunch of floating islands, I recalled this image off of VisualParadox:

The image is of course copyright VisualParadox.
Not exactly what I had pictured (no odd bubbles over the islands), but it gives one an idea of what I’m talking about here.
