One last one… I promise!

Published on January 5, 2006

Not that matters, I don’t think anyone else reads this blog. So one last game idea. As I was telling my friend Vic last night, the moment I say I’m switching to stories and setting games aside I get game ideas.
Ian’s been mentioning that he wants to have some more ‘traditional’ games to play […]

Stix Shapes

Published on February 28, 2005

Here’s the other game I came up with this weekend. Don’t laugh It could be a fun game, could also just be a weird, dorky little thing!
Basically, you have pieces that look very tetris-like which you lay on a gridded board. You also have cards with shapes on them. You’re trying to get your […]

Game design schedule

Here’s what I’d like to plan for:
*Finish Stix Shapes prototype since I’m almost there
*Playtest Stix Shapes, Election!, and K&E at least twice each
*Review and revamp rules and game pieces for each game between playtests
*Create more detailed, robust (better looking) prototypes and determine best packaging for each
*Review current game publishers and identify target publishers for each […]

Stix Shapes

New game idea, I’ve actually got the prototype almost ready. It’s sort of group tetris/pattern matching with a board and cards. I’ll explain more when it’s ready.

Election

Published on February 25, 2005

Here’s a first pass at the card list and basic rules. I think if you had some fun cartoons on the cards and tailored each card a little (i.e. for ’scandal’ you had a specific humorous scandal in mind), it could be a lot of fun:

Election continued

I think take away the duration from cards to keep it simple. The game has a fixed length, 10 rounds. I do think a war chest will come into play, in units of $5,000 (there will be a stack of 5s and 10s for ‘cash’). Cards add to the warchest and remove from it. Some […]

Election

Published on November 16, 2004

Latest game idea, card-based. Each player is a candidate in an election. The game is the campaign period before the election. The winner is the one with the most ‘votes’ (highest score). My goal is to create a humorous, somewhat realistic if cynical simulation of an election without being too biting or satirical […]

The darkness comes…

Kind of gimmicky and would rely upon what materials technology is available. A board game representing a fantasy world of castles and forests, etc. with treasures and monsters. Each square has a peg hole at the corner. There is an extra game piece that fits in this hole and covers a random number of squares […]

Stack the deck

Published on November 14, 2004

This is a very simplistic game, along the lines of Memory or Spoons. In fact, after thinking it through for a while, I realized you could do this with decks of cards (each player would get one red and one black suit, red could be negative and black positive, read on to understand).
Basically, it works […]

Dungeon Tiles

Published on

Tile based games seem to be all the rage lately. Basically, to make the game more unique each time you play, rather than having a board that is the same, you have a stack of tiles, or small cardboard pieces. Shuffle them up, then the setup of the game is to randomly lay out all […]
