Innocent Love
How strong is that love of an innocent
It breaks all bounds, it knows no barriers
No language cannot translate it,
No shadow can hide it
Every soul, every heart
Bitter, tough, experienced, wry
Will laugh and it will cry
At the expression of innocent love
Simple and pure, innocent and naïve
The love of one who has not been
hurt,
Who has not been lost by life
Nor loved and not loved in return
Be it a child, or a youthful mind
Fresh on its path into the world at large
The love of this child, the hope of this mind
Know no limits and speak no lies
Yet to witness the first act of betrayal
To this love, to this spirit
Wrenches the heart of young and old
Of the cynical and the vain
For every watching eye
feels the pang anew
and thinks “oh how that moment
hurt,
when the reality of life I knew”
